You have an acoustic guitar that you use very often. It is common to find that the string of your guitar is malfunctioning. It may be broken, damaged or degraded. You want to replace it yourself, but you’re wondering how to do it.
Don’t worry! You don’t need to turn off a guitar specialist to do this. Find out here the steps to easily replace an acoustic guitar string.
PREPARATION
To replace the string of your acoustic guitar, you must have the proper hardware. You need: new compatible strings on an acoustic guitar, a mechanical turntable, a small clamp and an acoustic tuner.
Now that you have all these instruments, take your guitar, settle down in a quiet place and follow the recommendations. Every step is necessary to make this operation a success. So follow the four steps carefully.
STEP 1: CUT THE DEFECTIVE STRING
Beforehand, the tension of the rope must be lowered with the help of a mechanical turning device. When you see that the rope is sufficiently relaxed, cut it off. The incision is made in the middle or at the place where the microphone is attached.
STEP 2: INSERT THE NEW STRING
You can now insert the new string through the tailpiece of the guitar to the mechanics. The tailpiece is located at the back of your acoustic guitar and even on a small guitar. Turn the key of the tuning mechanism to open the hole in which the new string will enter. You must open it enough to allow an easier passage of the string.
STEP 3: THREADING THE STRING THROUGH THE HOLE IN THE TUNING MECHANISM
After threading the rope through the hole in the mechanism, tension it. The next action is to move the rope clockwise around the mechanism. Tighten the knot you get. Then you can select the end of the rope with the small pliers.
STEP 4: TUNING THE GUITAR
You need to make sure that your guitar keeps the right tone. So this last step is the most important.
If your guitar is properly tuned, you’ll be able to enjoy it to the fullest. You must therefore take the time and have the patience to do this exercise correctly. Use your acoustic tuner for greater success.
You will follow the same procedure every time you need to replace a new string. If you repeat the same exercise several times, mastery will come easily and you can change the string of your acoustic guitar with great ease.
